Summer may technically be over, but I tend to stretch my summer wardrobe for another month or so til SoCal temps drop lower than 80 degrees.

One of my favorite summer items that I've been wearing quite often for the past couple months are flared pants! They're perfect for the scorching hot temps because of how thin and lightweight they are! Plus, they always come in fun colors and prints. Below are a few simple tips I always use when styling printed pants! Hope you find them helpful!

TIPS:

1) Pair your printed bottoms with a solid colored top. Typically, I'd choose a top in a color that's also found in the bottom. This will help bring your look together and make it cohesive.
2) Choose a fitted top if your bottoms are looser and flowy. And choose a looser top for the more fitted bottoms. This will help balance out your whole look.
3) I would suggest wearing printed bottoms with some sort of heel to elongate your legs. The busy prints can make your legs appear shorter so throw on some heels to finish off the look.

Catch of the Day

According to my friend, Fernie, I look like The Little Mermaid going on a romantic date with Prince Eric to a French bistro on a warm afternoon. Haha. In her words, I'm "a beautiful mermaid that got caught in a net and is now being forced to walk around on land wearing cute clothes!". I couldn't be more flattered lol. I mean who doesn't love the adorable little redheaded princess?!

The sad truth is...I'm not a mermaid (although I really wish I was). And I didn't go on a romantic date with my handsome boyfriend since he's been putting in some insane hours at work. Instead, I went on a romantic date with my college roommate, Katie. We spent a relaxing evening picnicking in the park & watching Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. If you live in the LA area, you mustn't miss it! Only two more weeks left of the Independent Shakespeare Co.'s scheduled performances. Check out their calendar here

Fluorescent Efflorescence

These Elliatt 'Efflorescent' pants are crazy cool...literally! They're silky smooth and super light weight, which totally helps me get through these last few official days of summer.

Honestly as a Californian, I'm probably going to stretch my summer wardrobe til mid-October lol. This is one of the many perks of living in Southern California! I could probably get away with wearing shorts almost year-round! And I only say 'almost' because anything below 65 degrees Fahrenheit is freezing to me! I'd get so cold that I'd actually wear a snow jacket on a daily basis at work because the air conditioning was too cold for me to handle! Hahaha

Anyway, I paired my pants with a stretchy skintight textured tank top and silver accessories. I paired these pants with this top and added a belt to accentuate my waist...otherwise these pants would swallow me whole. They're cut and draped in a way that widens your hips, so I contrasted that with my tight tank top.

Rule Breaker

Since Labor Day was last week, I should probably pack away the whole white section of my closet...right?! Nuh uh!...I don't think so....I love my whites way too much to only reserve it for Spring and Summer!

Some rules are just meant to be broken like this old school "fashion rule" that you can't wear white after Labor Day. Obviously nobody really follows it anymore because white is a year-round color in this day and age. But I'll pretend like I'm a badass and proclaim myself as a rule breaker with this white maxi dress from Elliatt! Plus, it's really all about bending and breaking the rules of fashion now. Like I always say, "Life is too short to wear boring clothes"! So go experiment and have fun with fashion...while defying all those "fashion rules".

I styled this sheer striped maxi dress with some killer Jeffrey Campbell silver gladiator heels, a braided silver belt, and some silver jewelry. Have a happy Monday, y'all!
